Deputy Manager for Academy Operations

Serves as the alter ego to the Academy superintendent in providing leadership and exercising overall planning, management control, direction and coordination of resources, activities, programs and facilities of the Academy. Acts as the day-to-day operations manager of the Academy. Assists the Academy Superintendent in planning, developing and implementing the educational and training programs of the Academy. Works with managers to develop program goals, objectives and proposals and presents them to the Superintendent for approval. Supervises the Academy's managers and supervisors, and through them, directs a staff of professional, technical and support personnel in the conduct of a variety of comprehensive programs. Manages the daily Academy operations and oversees administrative tasks for Academy employees. Works directly with other Federal and State agency heads in conducting appropriate research and technology transfer projects to further the goals of the Academy. Maintains liaison with key officials in MSHA, academic, mining industry and other officials concerned with evolving educational techniques and methodologies relating to mine safety and health issues. Coordinates the training and all activities related to international visitors at the Academy. Applicants must possess 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-13, in the Federal Service. Specialized
Experience:
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must possess the specialized experience; for this position specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and related to professional leadership experience in developing and managing program areas related to education and training. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-13 for GS-14) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the Federal government. Examples of specialized experience include:
Experience with management practices and procedures in order to direct the operations and curriculum of a technical educational institution; Working knowledge of educational theories, principles and practices of educational programs, course and training material design, and program application with the ability to relate this knowledge to mine safety and health. Experience reviewing, evaluating, and formulating recommendations and solutions to programmatic issues; Experience developing education and training policies and procedures; and, Knowledge of the mine safety and health as they relate to both metal/nonmetal and coal mine issues. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
